Forgiveness: Who Do You Need to Forgive ?

One of the greatest gifts God gives to us is forgiveness. The reason it’s such a magnificent gift is because it is such a wonderful and all-encompassing one- it covers all of our flaws and faults. When God forgives us, He does it whole-heartedly with no reservations or conditions, allowing us to heal from all of our hurts and sorrows. We don’t have to earn his forgiveness or deserve it in some way – it simply washes over us from His full and loving heart !

God, Please Heal My Hurt and Unforgiveness.

God’s forgiveness washes away the hurt in our lives and helps us to heal from the bitterness and pain that may be lodged in our own hearts. The hard part is passing that forgiveness on to other people – forgiveness is not easy for us, because we look around at those we need to forgive and we see that they have flaws or have made mistakes and we want to hold on to those past hurts and grievances. But that’s where we’re making a mistake – because true forgiveness, the forgiveness of God that truly comes from the heart, is a gift freely given to those who don’t deserve it !

When next you feel God’s forgiveness washing over you, remember to take that next step and release those people in your life that have caused you pain or sorrow. Allow your heart to forgive them and give them one of the greatest gifts there is to heal the human spirit.

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
- Matthew 6:12

It’s easy to ask God to do things for us, but we can’t forget that God also requires something of us – He wants us to treat others like we would want to be treated. How can we get down on our knees and ask Him to forgive us for all of our many sins and transgressions when we are so unwilling to let go of the petty mistakes and hurts that others have inflicted on us ?

“Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you.”
- Mark 11:25

Forgiveness is the first step toward healing hurt and pain. God’s love helps us to forgive. His forgiveness gives us the strength to turn toward others and express our own forgiveness, opening the way to a brighter future without rancor or grudges. We may not always have the opportunity to forgive someone in person, yet we can forgive then in our heart and mind, blessing them in our prayers.

It may be even more difficult to forgive ourselves than it is to forgive others. We often remember words we would like to take back or actions we regret years later. Through forgiving ourselves , we release the negativity and wasted energy we carry around and allow more positive, loving thoughts to fill our mind and heart. We must remember that God knows what is best for us, and isn’t presumptuous for us to think that He has forgiven us, but that we might know better than Him? After all, if we won’t forgive ourselves, we are insinuating that we aren’t deserving of forgiveness, despite God’s opinion that we ARE ! So let go of your self-hatred , pain and unforgiveness – you ARE worthy of self-forgiveness, God has already assured you of that!

No one and nothing can compete with God’s love. There is no way to alter the past. When you look back in unforgiveness, you are cutting yourself off from the opportunities God is offering you for a real future based on His love and forgiveness. Let God forgive you and heal you – and allow yourself to forgive yourself and others who may have hurt you. Know that the pain and hurt will pass and God’s promise for your life will be delivered. God has something special in mind for you !

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Help me through this process of healing.
I release to you any unresolved feelings of resentment, anger, hurt or regret that I have toward anyone.
I forgive those who have caused hurt and pain in my life and ask you to bless them. Forgive me for anyone that I have caused hurt and pain in their life.

I experience the relief of forgiveness to the depths of my being.
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge and give thanks for your love that strengthens, comforts and soothes me emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. In the complete fullness of your love, I can and do forgive all even myself.
Thank you, Heavenly Father , for healing my heart and bringing Joy and Meaning back into my life.
In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Our relationships are blessed through the transforming power of God’s love. With the forgiveness we express today, we open the way to a brighter future. Through this loving act, we free ourselves and others from the past, and we open the way to a brighter future.
